After the strike on a rebel-held town in Syria on Tuesday, several of the Senate’s more hawkish lawmakers pushed the Trump administration to make a move. Senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain said in a joint statement on Thursday that Assad “must pay a punitive cost for this horrific attack,” and called on the United States to “lead an international coalition to ground Assad’s air force.”
John McCain is a war hawk. He obviously desires war and all its fruits. I don’t know why; but his track record is very clear. At a certain level, I don’t really care who is guilty of the attack in Syria. I care deeply about the people who were hurt or killed or left now without their loved ones. But they are not my responsibility—nor are they the United States’s nor Donald Trump’s nor John McCain’s. And, frankly, when it comes to war, if John McCain is for it, I know it’s the wrong choice.
