New Orleans begins controversial removal of Confederate monuments

The sun is setting on one of the great Southern cities:

A few hours before sunrise Monday, the obelisk—located not far from Canal Street, near the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas—was slowly taken apart as supporters and opponents of the action gathered nearby amid a strong police presence.

CNN’s article, though biased toward the removal, at least refrains from a celebratory tone, which would have been all to easy. Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis were among the very best men these united states have ever produced. They defended liberty at great cost and deserve to be honored for it.
